The Financial District - "Emerging luxury residential neighborhood"

Sound like an oxymoron? Residential Neigborhood in the Financial District... you have to see it to beleive it.

For most of the 20th century the Financial District was a 9-to-5 kind of neighborhood which emptied out at night. Not any longer, thanks to building conversions and encouragement from the Lower Manhattan Development Corp building initiatives, many additions have significantly increased the number of local residents. Nowadays, it is entirely possible to bump into a neighbor on the way home around midnight, especially on massively "residentialized" streets like John Street. Wall Street, the nerve center of American capitalism, now contains quite a few luxury residental buildings.

Occupying the southern tip of the island of Manhattan roughly below City Park Hall, this area is the financial heart of New York City and, arguably, the world. It boasts several beautiful buildings and historical sites such as the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street, Trinity Church, the Federal Reserve Bank, the Old Custom’s House, and many others.

For more sophisticated shopping and entertainment, you can go to the South Street Seaport, which is within walking distance from the Financial District and offers breathtaking views of the Hudson River, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Currently, the areas close to or especially facing Ground Zero are relatively inexpensive, but can be expected to rise in value once the area is rebuilt.
